We always hear about human trafficking. Yet, somehow, it seems we’ve gone calloused and looked at it as something so detached from our reality.

However, somewhere out there, real people are suffering and are going through this exact situation.

Victims are either taken forcibly or with consent and are forced to get into sexual acts against their own will.  But the bottom line is that these people lose their human rights.

Here are some human trafficking statistics that you might want to know, this will give you an idea on how wide scale the problem is and how many people are actually suffering because of this.

In 2007, 27 million people are considered slaves in today’s modern society. The advent of technology does not seem to be the perfect setting for the barbaric state of slavery, but yes it is, and statistics will prove this fact.

Internationally, the number of individuals that are smuggled into other countries illegally or trafficked is close to 800,000 every year.

Women and children are still the favored target of human trafficking each year. They comprise 80% of the total number of people being trafficked.

This human trafficking statistics estimates that 161 countries out 192 (according to the United Nations) in the world are involved with human trafficking.

Sadly, some 30% of the victims will have an encounter with a health care proffesional while in bondage, but the sad part is that it will not be revealed that they are actually victims.

According to International Police report, there are 30,000 women declared missing presumed to be victims of human trafficking, In Romania alone.

Fifty percent (50%) or half of what the estimated number of humans being trafficked are all children. 12-14 years old is the estimated age of entry and most likely than not, these children will have to experience sexual exploitation.

Human trafficking, as an organized crime, is approximated to generate 32 billion revenue each year..

Individuals under the age 18, make up half of the total number of humans being trafficked.

The face of human trafficking is revealed through the statistics sated above, though they are but few. But these numbers grow by the day. It will definitely bring joy if these numbers decrease, but they don’t.

It may not be that simple to end this situation because poverty or economic problems is the root cause of human trafficking. But not taking any actions will definitely put more women, men and children at risk of becoming targets; thereby, putting their lives on hold.

Poverty or economic problems is the root cause of human trafficking; thus, it is not that simple to put an end to this problem. However, our passivity means more and more women, men and children will become targets and will ultimately be curtailed of their freedom to live a normal life. Everyone of us should take part in fighting this cruel industry and stop the effects of human trafficking.
